About

Blithe Moon Donkey Stud is the tranquil home of one of Australia’s most contented droves of donkeys. The stud is situated one kilometre west of Laura in gently undulating farming land just off the Laura-Pirie Road. The purpose built rural facility is surrounded by wheat fields and a stone’s throw from the red gum studded Rocky River.
Blithe Moon donkeys and mules are known throughout Australia. Blithe Moon donkeys are valued for both working and companion roles. They can be trained for harness and pack work and they are a familiar sight during Laura’s festivals, fetes and Christmas celebrations giving rides to the children and making sure that Santa gets to the town on time.

LAURA

Laura is a rural town in the Mid North of South Australia at the foot of the Southern Flinders Ranges. It has a population of around 600. Laura is 40 kilometres directly east of Port Pirie on the Spencer Gulf and 12 km north of Gladstone on the Horrocks Highway. At only 252 metres above sea level it’s an easy two and a half hour undulating drive from Adelaide. Laura is a convenient sightseeing hub for day trips to Aligator Gorge, Appila Springs, the Wirrabara Forest, and for climbing Mount Remarkable. And of course it’s the home of Golden North ice cream and the home of the poet CJ Dennis. you may even see Blithe Moon donkeys at the annual Laura Folk Fair
